Try camping with a Camping Hammock

Posted by admin on Dec 14, 2009

Camping is a true joy for some people, myself included. I love camping. For me there is little better than getting out in the wilderness; breathing in the fresh air, escaping from the troubles at work and just relaxing in nature. So it is no big surprise that I plan quite a lot of camping trips. Upon planning one at the beginning of this year a friend told me about camping with a Camping Hammock. At first it sounded a little silly. I mean I love hammocks too, but it didn’t sound so practical. He went on to show me otherwise.

If you’re a camper and you spend a fair amount of time hiking you’ll know the pains of lugging around a heavy pack. Some folks carry a full tent with them, but I normally just carried a tarp and used it to make a bivvy (or a hoochie depending on where you’re from). My pal explained that carrying a hammock just meant that I would be in a hammock under my tarp. I would be off the ground, comfy in a cosy hammock.

This Camping Hammock idea started sounding pretty good. I know full well how rejuvenating a snooze in a hammock can be, just what those muscles need after scaling a mountain or two, so I looked into it.

There are specially made Camping Hammocks. Many have insect netting and some come complete with rain shields and insulation accessories. So I wouldn’t even need my old tarp when I went camping, my Camping Hammock would have one. I checked out some specifications and found out that some complete Camping Hammock kits were lighter than my old tarp and mattress!

Probably the best thing though was the versatility of a Camping Hammock. I didn’t have to look for a level area, free of rocks and sticks and that kind of garbage. I would be just hanging there on a nice hammock; above discomfort. Another thing, I didn’t have to worry about the rising cold and moisture that is inevitable when sleeping on the ground. My current Warbonnet Blackbird is equipped with an underquilt and an undercover, making my back the warmest part now!

Just when I was thinking that camping couldn’t get any better, fate spites me and shows me how to combine it with the Hammock. Try a Camping Hammock out yourself and turn hiking camping into a heaven on earth.
